Remember: you are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of those around you.
An array of wildlife suitable for hunting may be found on national forests and grasslands. Here are some tips to be safe when hunting on USDA Forest Service land:
- Wear hunter orange as an outer layer and avoid tan or white.
- Always treat your weapon as if it is loaded and always know where your hunting partners are located.
- Before shooting, clearly identify your target and what is beyond your target.
- Keep firearms and bows cased and unloaded while in public areas.
- Never use a firearm within 150 yards of any place where people are likely to be. Be alert when hunting near developed areas and trails.
- Shooting across a road or water body is prohibited.
- Use a map to make sure you are still on public land as you hunt.
- Tell someone where you are going and when you will return.
